DIESEL PARTICLE FILTER

A particulate filter for diesel vehicles is used to reduce the emissions of particulates in the exhaust gases. The filter consists of a ceramic or metal honeycomb structure, which is usually coated with precious metals such as platinum.

The exhaust gases pass through the channels in the structure and particles are trapped in the filter while the gases are released through the open channels.

Over time, the particulate filter can become clogged with ash and soot, reducing its functionality and affecting vehicle performance and fuel efficiency.
Therefore, the particle filter needs to be cleaned or replaced at regular intervals,
usually after 80,000-160,000 km depending on vehicle and usage conditions.

The difference between a particulate filter and a catalytic converter is that the particulate filter is designed to filter out particles, while the catalytic converter works to reduce emissions of gaseous pollutants. However, both systems can be used together to reduce emissions from vehicles.

It is also possible to recover precious metals from particulate filters through specialized recycling.
By recycling these metals, you can reduce the need to extract new resources and reduce environmental impact.
