Metallic catalyst

METALLIC CATALYST

Metallic catalytic converters are another type of catalytic converter used to clean exhaust gases from gasoline-powered vehicles.

Like ceramic catalysts, they work by using precious metal-coated surfaces to catalyze chemical reactions that convert harmful exhaust emissions into less hazardous substances.

A metallic catalyst is recognized by its metallic core, which is made of stainless steel or another metal.

The core usually has a honeycomb structure with small channels, just like ceramic catalysts. The surface of the channels is coated with a coating of platinum, palladium or rhodium, or a combination thereof, to promote the catalytic reaction.

Metallic catalysts have some advantages over ceramic catalysts. They are more durable and can withstand higher temperatures, which makes them more effective in cleaning exhaust gases from high-performance engines. They are also less likely to shatter or crack under shock damage or stress.

Like ceramic catalysts, metallic catalysts can be recycled to reuse the valuable precious metals in new products. Recycling catalysts helps to reduce the need to extract new metals, which reduces the environmental impact of mining and extracting the metals.
